TOP DOG TRADING’S HIGHLY CLASSIFIED, SUPER SECRET, HIGHLY CONFIDENTIAL …

“TOP 20 DAY TRADING RULES FOR SUCCESS.”

This training contains the rules I developed for my own, personal trading and has been developed over many years of experience. Some of the ideas are simple, others are more advanced. While they all pertain to my trading methodology, you can adapt them to fit your own trading method if you don’t use mine.

The focus of the list is on the trading mistakes I found myself making. Similar to the idea of sculpting an elephant by chipping away everything that doesn’t look like an elephant, I found that I was already a successful trader …. IF I just stopped making certain trading mistakes. If I chipped away the behaviors that didn’t look like a successful trader (eliminated these mistakes) what would be left would be a consistently profitable day trader.

This I believe, more than anything else, is the secret to trading success.

It may be that not all of these rules apply to you or your trading method, but I offer them for you to use as a springboard for creating your own personal list.

    Hi Dr Burns

Just watched the video on trend trading and I am about to go and practise what you preach. I’ve done a trading diploma to date, but feel there is always much more to learn, and you have shown me that, just by watching a few of your videos and doing the 5 day mini course. Well done, I’m learning so much from you. The next step will be one of your courses!

I like your aproch to trading, i am looking for Swing trading only. I need to refine my trades, after 10 years of trading I use guerllia and swing styles to develop a momentum trade for longer term proffits. I have been throue many trading schools. I pick trades by sector by industry and then I then pick the stock that are starting to move. I then set a alert for a buy pont, I just sold gld after a two week trade today. I am a swing trader. How can you help me refine my trading style?

I watched your first video that was listed somewhere on your site and it stopped at approx 19 minutes into the presentation…..where do I find the 2nd one of the three which is not now shown on this page?

    Tks…Rob

For those who would like to see what I referred to in my last post, go to the link found under Free Trading Class (on the rt side of this page) where you will see three (3) videos…unfortunately, the first one stopped before it was done..not sure if Dr. B fixed it as of yet.

  13. Barry Burns Says:

    November 7th, 2009 at 6:14 pm

    Hi Robert,

The first video is only 19 minutes long, so that’s why it stops then. It stops abruptly because the entire video is about 60 minutes long, but that’s too long for most computers to play so I edited it into 3 videos. The other 2 are also on the same page: http://www.topdogtrading.com/TopDogIntroWebinar.html

Barry, I appreciate your rules and especially the “only take 3 trades” and “only trade for a few hours. Amen. I’ve just started trading CL = crude oil. (nine years stocks & options, some ES trading) As I’m sure you know, CL is a market that has violent moves at times. I’ve never seen such violent moves except for maybe a NASDAQ high-flyer stock after hours on an earnings announce. I’ve developed a few rules of my own for this market, for example, I very rarely trade after 9 am CA time. The CL market just gets squiggy, like the ES after that time. It just gets harder to trade, choppy, less trendy, simple as that. And on two days, I had three winning trades. On those two days, the fourth trade ate either ALL the profits from the first 3 trades (and then some!) or 2/3rds the profits fromthe first 3 trades.

So thanks again for your rules and Amen!

    Dr. Burns-
Great stuff! I have been trading for 28 yrs and wish I had access to this information when I started. Over that time I have purchased and subscribed to many programs and newsletters. For the most part I was just throwing money away.
One comment on the 50 day SMA. Perhaps you did not wish to discuss this early on, but I see that as a great time to write covered calls, instead of avoiding the market.
Thanks again for a great service.

Having just updated my rules for Swing Trading, and about to start on my rules for Day Trading, your videos could not have come at a better time. I intend to become a full time Trader within six months. Your help, with the courses and the ongoing Video Newsletters has been of great help.

    Many Thanks

    Dr. Burns,

I purchased and received the Foundations Course #1 and #2 yesterday along with the three smaller “trick” guides. I have not had time to go over all of the material but I can see at a glance that there is a lot of valuble information.
I have listened to a couple of the videos and they are extremely educational.

Also, thank you for the gift that I received later in the day listing the Top 20 Rules.

Very nice material; I plan to go over it in detail and refer back to it as needed.

    Hi Barry,

Another excellent delivery. What I enjoy most about all your presentations including those in your course materials (which I have bought), is how you present these extremely very useful, vital and fundamental concepts in a very cool and calm manner.

Always very good quality stuff of very high standards. Even the so called “free” ones still pack some serious punches.

Thanks for giving more than you get, and may you continue to get more and more than you give.

    Warmest regards

    Duke

    Hello Dr. Barry Burns,

Thank you for sharing your top 20 trading rules. Your explanations are always very clear and easy to understand. I know new traders will benefit immensely. Having gone through your trading courses, I can say that I am part of the top 5% traders that make money consistently. Two rules that help me are:

    1. Be aware of major news and trade half an hour later.
    2. Always learn from mistakes and find a way to avoid it in the future or think of a way to take advantage of your own mistakes.

May you have an extraordinary profitable year!

    Cheers,
    Charles

Barry:You asked for suggestions for future videos/podcasts. I have a sense from some of the remarks here, that a session on the use of options would be welcomed. You mentioned them in one of your podcasts, but did not give any further detail as to how you use them. Perhaps this would be a good intro to one of your paid courses?

Your educational programs are by far the best I have taken. The information is thorough and succinctly presented. I personally use your recommended indicators and settings.

I’d also like to thank you for promptly replying to a question I sent to you via e-mail. It blows me away that you actually take the time to answer e-mails.

Dr. burns< currently sifting through an enormous amount of information. Yours seems very helpful so far and about to start the free 5 day session. I have been through many of these and still don't have the feel for it. I simply want to start s&p minis and wonder where the best practice accounts would be in your opinion. The problem with the net is that there is so much information and every other one contradicts the previous. I have worked a private business for many years and now it is to a point where I can spend much time here beginning a day trading retirement career. I have the time to do it right and prefer to be a sponge for a while talking to people such as yourself. Any suggestions are appreciated?

Hi Shane, for the S&P minis I use the NinjaTrader simulator. Not only can you do simulation trading in real time, but you can also record entire days of trading and go back and simulate trade it any time it’s convenient for you.
